3G and 4G Internet: Where Lies the Difference

3G and 4G InternetInternet, a buzz word in today’s world, is more of a need for most people. For last two decades, internet is dominating the global market and is now the most powerful medium that facilitates quick information sharing at a relatively lower cost. The global e-commerce is largely dependent on a fast and reliable internet service with a reach at almost every corner of the earth. Over the years, we have seen internet technology growing from adolescence to its matured state. In the recent past, it has entered its 4th Generation (4G) where it enabled the users to access their favorite online content at a lightning-fast speed, from anywhere they want.

Even after the launch of 4G internet services, the 3G wireless internet is still dominating the global marketplace. The 4G technology, though offers better speed, its availability is still restricted, where as 3G Internet Service is available almost in every corner of the globe. This is the basic reason why people prefer 3G over 4G services. However, the tech experts are trying to improve 4G connectivity in remote areas to attract more consumers.

Another drawback is that most mobile devices don’t support 4G technology; thus even if the network is available, people cannot use the service because they don’t have a 4G compatible device. Moreover, internet is a medium that lets you stay entertained. Music players and gaming consoles available in the market today mostly don’t support 4G technology. This is another reason 3G is more popular as compared to 4G.

The basic difference between 3G and 4G lies in their speed. 4G is the successor to the third generation standards. The two types of commercially deployed 4G standards are WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) and LTE (Long Term Evolution). With a 4G connection, users get access to mobile ultra-broadband internet, which sometime exceeds the speed of wired broadband services. For online gaming, video conferencing, large size file sharing or video streaming, 4G is certainly better than 3G as it facilitates high-speed connectivity.

Marketers and technocrats are on constant research to improve the connectivity standard of 4G technology and also giving ample importance to pursue consumers to buy 4G compatible devices. Though many countries are yet to deploy 4G internet, the speculations of the market experts clearly indicate to a significant boom in this technology adoption by the end of 2020.
